It's really happening, we're getting hitched! Once we've tied the administrative knot in Bristol, we'd like you to join us for a smashing weekend at a really lovely venue. We suggest you think party rather than wedding. Less aisles, altars and bridesmaids, more gin, jazz and sensible shoes (what else?!). We will continue to post more details as we near the big weekend, but in the meantime....

The Weekend

THE VENUE

We are really excited to invite you to join us at Woodlands Farm Wales, near Raglan in Monmouthshire. This amazing location is where we got engaged last year, and so is very special to us. All the pictures on this site are of the farm, its barns, gardens and wonderful views.

THE EVENT

The plan is to kick off with some light formalities and spend the remainder of the weekend becoming increasingly less formal! There will be great food, live music and lots of lovely people in one place.

SATURDAY 25th AUGUST

12.30: The formal bit: Arrive for a spot of Pimms, followed by our 'ceremony'. We will then sit down for a fabulous high tea, toasts and lots of cake in the Dutch Barn. After lunch we will head outside for some al fresco jazz and cocktails on the lawn.

17.00: The party bit: More lovely people arrive for the evening. We will have another set from the fabulous Swing from Paris, followed by hot food and, naturally, more cake. A great Bristol band, The Duval Project will entertain us after dark, and we'll finish off the night under a mirror ball, with the obligatory wedding disco!

01.00: The off you go bit: We will have a complimentary taxi service available from 11.00 for those staying within 5 miles of the venue.

SUNDAY 26th AUGUST

12.00: The morning after bit: As it's the Bank Holiday weekend, why don't you make the most of it and come back for brunch! Food and mimosas will be served from 12.30. Mr Whompy will be providing musical entertainment throughout brunch and into the afternoon.  There will be some light organised fun throughout the afternoon - entirely optional of course, or you may just want to kick back and nurse a hangover under a tree.

19.00: The final bit: For those sticking around in the area until Monday, do join us in finishing the weekend with a BBQ and our own cinema in the Barn. Our film choice(s), although some light bribes will be considered.

Accommodation

You will find other options in the local area, these are just a few suggestions. We will arrange a taxi service on Saturday night for those staying within 5 miles of the venue

Everything Else

LOCATION & DIRECTIONS

Woodlands Farm Wales is situated near Raglan in a village called Penrhos, Monmouthshire. There will be sign posts to the farm, once you leave the main A roads.

To find the farm, use NP15 2LE for your sat nav or mobile phone. That will bring you into Penrhos village. With the church on your right head up the hill passing the Old Vicarage on your right. Take the next right turn (opposite Lam Rim Buddhist Centre) and Woodlands Farm Wales is 100 metres on the right.

Alternatively, if you use the postcode in Google Maps, that will direct you to the Old Vicarage. Follow the road north and take the first turning on the right (opposite Lam Rim Buddhist Centre) and the farm is the only property on that road, with car parking on the right.

DRESS CODE

'Respectfully casual' is the order of the day! Your comfort and enjoyment of the weekend is our priority. With regards to footwear, to make the most of the beautiful venue, you might want to select something on the sensible side.

So, Crocs and ripped denim aside, wear what you like!

BOOZE

We are very happy to cater for the majority of your boozy needs - Pimms on arrival, wine at lunch and mimosas with Sunday brunch. There will also be soft drinks, and tea & coffee available throughout the weekend.

After lunch on Saturday, there will be a bar stocked with wine, prosecco, lager, local ale and various gins, along with our signature cocktail. If what we are planning to stock, doesn't meet your requirements, do let us know. However, as our lovely venue is not licensed, we are taking an alternative approach, and we ask that you settle your bar tab in advance - this only applies to those of you planning to drink alcohol.

We are recommending a contribution of £15 - 20 per booze drinker (if you are planning a heavy night, do adjust accordingly!). Please transfer the money via PayPal, and include any specific drinks requirements in the comments. We would really appreciate if you could do this by the 3rd August.

GIFTS

Please don't feel that you have to buy us anything at all. We know how expensive weddings can be, and the most important thing for us is that you are there. Also, we have lived together for a long time, and have lots of really lovely things already. That said, if you really want to get us something, here are some options (in no particular order).

  • Post Hitch-a-rama, we will be heading off for a "mini-moon" nearby and any contributions to this would be really appreciated  (via Paypal please).
  • We are hoping to buy a house in the next year or so, John Lewis vouchers would really help! (MB wants a sofa for shorter people)
  • We have set up Just Giving pages for Winston's Wish and The Alzheimer's Society,  two charities whose work we value a great deal. If you would rather make a charitable donation in our name, please consider supporting the fantastic work they do.
